On the 26th of
September we celebrate the day of languages. The aim of the celebration is to
alert the public to the importance of language learning and diversity the range of language in
order to increase plurilingualism
and intercultural understanding. Also, to
promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe .
Last, to encourage lifelong language learning in and out of the school.
There are about 225
indigenous languages in Europe – roughly 3% of
the world’s total. The most popular foreign languages in Europe are English, German, France, Italian and Spanish.
